Make a place for your students
In your email platform, make a segment (Flodesk), a group (MailerLite), an audience (Mailchimp) or a tag (Kit) for this course, and an automation that starts when someone joins it. In Mailchimp, students are also tagged with your course's title, so you can start the automation from that tag.
Switch it on in Publish, step 1
Open your course's Publish tab. Under the way you get paid, tick Send students to your email platform.
Connect your email platform
Choose your platform and paste its API key. It's the same connection your free courses use, so if you've connected it before, it's already there. Where to find each platform's key is in Offer a free course, under Send them to your email platform.
Choose where students go
Pick the segment, group, audience or tag from the list under Add every student to this. With Zapier or Make, every course that sends its students there sends each one with their email, first name, course, how they joined, and whether they ticked the box for your other emails.
Ask buyers about your other emails, if you like
With Course Mark checkout, tick Also ask buyers if they'd like your other emails. Checkout then shows a separate box, never ticked for them, that buying doesn't depend on. Choose where people who tick it also go (in Mailchimp they're tagged Wants your emails), and add your business mailing address, which shows in small print under the box with your support email.
Publish your changes
Click Publish changes. From then on, each new buyer is sent the moment their payment goes through, and each student you add on the Students tab when you add them.
Send students who were already on the course
On the Students tab, the line above your list says how many students are on your email platform. Click Send them now to send everyone who joined before you switched this on, and anyone who hasn't gone yet.
Good to know
- Every student goes to your list, so you can send what they need for the course. The box at checkout is for anything else, like news and offers: Canada's anti-spam law (CASL) asks for a separate yes for those.
- Your Students tab marks each student Sent to your platform, or Not sent yet: hover over it to see what your platform said. Buyers who ticked the box show Wants your emails.
- Someone already on your list keeps their settings: nobody who unsubscribed is subscribed again.
- Students you remove from a course aren't sent. Anyone already sent stays on your list until you remove them there.
- Sold with a Stripe Payment Link? Add each buyer on the Students tab, and they're sent then.
