Unlock the add-on
On your dashboard, open Custom domain and click Unlock custom domain. It's $20 CAD, one time.
Choose your address
Use a subdomain of your domain, like learn.yourbusiness.com or courses.yourbusiness.com. Your main website at yourbusiness.com stays exactly as it is.
Add one record at your domain provider
Where you bought your domain, add a CNAME record:
- Name (or Host): the first part of your address, like learn
- Value (or Points to, or Target): coursemark.netlify.app
Steps for the most common providers are below.
Check it in Course Mark
Come back to Custom domain and click Check again. Waiting for the DNS record usually clears within an hour, and can take up to a day. Then Securing it (HTTPS) takes a few minutes, and it says Connected.
Choose what shows at the main address
Pick what someone sees at learn.yourbusiness.com on its own: your shop, one of your courses, or nothing. Each course is also at learn.yourbusiness.com/your-course.
Steps for your provider
GoDaddy: open your Domain Portfolio, choose your domain, then DNS and Add New Record. Add a record with Type CNAME, Name learn and Value coursemark.netlify.app, then save.
Namecheap: open Domain List, click Manage next to your domain, then Advanced DNS and Add New Record. Add a record with Type CNAME, Host learn and Value coursemark.netlify.app, then Save All Changes.
Squarespace Domains: open your domain, then DNS (DNS Settings), and under Custom records click Add record. Add a record with Type CNAME, Host learn and Data (or Points to) coursemark.netlify.app, then save.
Cloudflare: choose your domain, then DNS, Records and Add record. Add a record with Type CNAME, Name learn and Target coursemark.netlify.app. Set Proxy status to DNS only (the grey cloud), then save. With the orange cloud on, your domain can't be secured.
Good to know
- Type only the first part, like learn, in the Name or Host box. Your provider adds the rest.
- If there's already a record with that name, remove it first: a name can only have one CNAME.
- Once it's connected, checkout and your buyers' emails use your domain too.
- Custom domains need a subdomain like learn.yourbusiness.com. Your main domain on its own (yourbusiness.com) can't be used.
- "That domain is already connected to another website" means another service has claimed it. Remove it there first, then try again.
