A discount code takes money off at checkout, like SPRING20 for 20% off. You make the codes in your own Stripe account, and Course Mark shows a box for them on your checkout.
Make a code
Create a coupon in Stripe
In your Stripe dashboard, open Product catalogue then Coupons, and click Create coupon. Choose:
- Percentage off (like 20%), or a fixed amount off, in the same currency as your course.
- Apply to specific products, if the code should only work for one course. Your courses are listed by their names. Without it, the code works on everything you sell, add-ons included.
- An end date or a limit on how many times it can be used, if you'd like one.
Give it a code buyers can type
In the coupon, add a promotion code: the word buyers enter, like SPRING20. Capitals don't matter when they type it. You can limit it to first-time buyers, set a minimum order or give it its own end date.
Turn on discount codes in Course Mark
Open your course, go to Publish, step 2 Get paid, and tick Let buyers use discount codes. Then publish your course again.
What buyers see
Your checkout shows Have a discount code? under the payment fields. When a buyer enters a working code, the discount appears in the totals and the Pay button shows the new amount. A code that doesn't work says so, and the buyer can try again.
Good to know
- One code per order.
- To stop a code working, turn it off in Stripe. You don't need to change anything in Course Mark.
- A 100% off code works too: the buyer gets the course without paying, and gets their access email as usual.
- Sale emails and receipts show the discount on its own line.
