Klarna and Afterpay let buyers split the price into smaller payments. You're paid the full amount up front, less Stripe's fee, and Klarna or Afterpay collects the instalments from the buyer.
Turn them on
Open your payment methods in Stripe
In your Stripe dashboard, open Settings then Payment methods.
Open payment methods in StripeTurn on Klarna and Afterpay
Under Buy now, pay later, turn on Klarna, Afterpay / Clearpay, or both. Stripe may ask a few questions about your business first.
That's it
There's nothing to change in Course Mark. Your checkout shows them next to the card option to buyers who can use them, from the next page load.
Who sees them
Stripe decides for each buyer, so not everyone sees both:
- Afterpay is only for buyers in the same country as your Stripe account, paying in that country's currency. In Canada, that's Canadian buyers paying in Canadian dollars. It also has a minimum and maximum order total.
- Klarna works in Canada, the US, the UK, much of Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Klarna chooses which payment plans to offer each buyer.
Good to know
- Stripe's fees for Klarna and Afterpay are higher than for cards. See Stripe's pricing.
- Buyers finish paying on Klarna's or Afterpay's own page, then come straight back to your thank-you page and get their access email as usual.
- Afterpay can't be used for some kinds of sale, like pre-orders, so turn it on once your course is ready.
- Refunds work as they do for cards: refund the payment in Stripe.
- Turned one on but can't see it at your checkout? Stripe only shows it when the buyer's country, your currency and the order total all fit. Open your checkout in a private window from the right country to check.
