Add questions students answer

Reflection boxes ask students a question right in the lesson. They type their answer under it, it saves as they go, and Your answers gathers everything into their own plan to print or save as a PDF.

  1. Open a lesson

On the Lessons tab, click a lesson to open it in the editor, and click where you'd like the question to go.

  2. Add a reflection box

Click More in the toolbar and choose Reflection, or type / and then "reflection". A box appears with the words "Reflect" and a sample question, and a grey area where students will write.

  3. Write your question

Replace the sample with your own question, like "What's one thing you'll do this week?" You can add a second line with a hint or an example. Add as many boxes as you like, in any lesson.

  4. Publish your changes

Go to Publish and click Publish changes.

  5. Check it as a student

Add yourself on the Students tab and open the login link we email you, or click Preview course. Type an answer: it says Saved a moment after you stop. Your answers, at the top of the lesson list, shows every question in the course with your answers, and Save as PDF or print.

Good to know

  • Answers are private: only the student sees them. They're not on your Students tab, and nobody else on the course sees them.
  • Answers save to the student's email, so they follow them to any device. Emptying a box deletes that answer.
  • To save their plan as a PDF, students click Save as PDF or print and choose Save as PDF as the printer. On a phone, the print screen's share button saves it to Files.
  • Changing a question's wording keeps the answers students already wrote. Deleting the box takes it, and its answers, off Your answers.
  • Your answers only lists lessons that are open to the student, so questions in modules you release later appear once they open.
  • In Preview course and in a downloaded copy of your course, answers save on that device only.
